As a kid, I moved around a lot. I was fascinated by geography—specifically, physical and cultural. I spent hours pouring over atlases, completely captivated by the pages that introduced each country’s language, culture, and history. That curiosity never left me. It’s no surprise that my adult life led me overseas, where I have built a career in international education and immersed myself in diverse communities around the world.
One of my favorite days of the school year, every single year, is International Day. Without fail, I cry tears of joy at least once during each celebration. There’s something profoundly moving about watching students claim and celebrate their identities while learning from and experiencing others’ cultures. It’s a day that captures the best of what it means to be part of an international school community.
Over the years, I’ve supported International Day in just about every way imaginable- from participant and volunteer to organizer. In every role, one challenge has always stood out: finding meaningful resources for International Day or International Week that are actually designed with international schools in mind.
As both a classroom teacher and a school counselor, I wanted every student to see their country and culture represented around the school, not just on the flag parade stage, but also in the classroom displays, advisory activities, and conversations about identity development. I wanted cohesive, comprehensive materials that helped students connect their personal stories to the global community around them.
That’s why I began creating and curating International Day resources specifically for international schools—tools that support Third Culture Kids (TCKs) and globally mobile families in celebrating identity, culture, and belonging.
This collection brings together what I spent years searching for, and then started developing myself. These International Day and International Week resources are designed to help your community celebrate what makes it so special, while fostering meaningful reflection, pride, and connection among your students.
I hope you find something here that sparks joy, learning, and connection in your school.
If you use any of these materials, please tag @World_Class_Educators in your photos and posts. I love seeing communities celebrating culture, connection, and joy!
